Walmere Crystal Skulls
Walmere is the principal carver behind Crystal Skulls Brazil and the only artist whose work has its own named collection on our site. He has carved crystal skulls for more than twenty years and is known for the balance, finish and individual character of his work.
His workshop is only ten minutes from us, allowing us to visit regularly, see pieces as they develop and select finished skulls directly from the carver. Most of the skulls in our wider collection are made by Walmere, from traditional quartz carvings to rare minerals and large statement pieces.
Every skull in this collection is individually photographed and filmed. The piece shown is the exact Walmere skull you receive.
A Style Shaped by the Stone
Walmere does not begin with one fixed skull shape that is repeated across every material. He studies the size, natural contours, colour and internal structure of the rough before deciding what the finished piece should become.
A clear crystal may be positioned to preserve an internal mirror or rainbow. A patterned stone may be turned so its strongest markings cross the face or cranium. Natural fractures can influence the depth of an eye socket, the line of the jaw or whether the piece becomes a traditional skull, a shaman-style carving or something more unusual.
These decisions are an important part of his style. His skulls are generally recognised by their smooth finish, balanced proportions and expressive but controlled features. Even when two pieces share a similar form, differences in the original stone ensure that each finished carving has its own identity.
Significant and One-Off Skulls
Some of Walmere’s most memorable work begins with exceptional rough: unusually transparent quartz, striking mineral combinations, rare Brazilian stones or pieces large enough for life-size carving. Others become significant because of the design he sees within them.
He may preserve part of the original crystal surface, follow an unexpected shape or create a carving that sits between a traditional skull and a more symbolic figure. These pieces are not planned as a production range and may never be repeated in the same material or form.

Because we work so closely with Walmere, we often know the history of the rough, the choices made during carving and the story behind an unusual finished piece. Contact us whenever you would like to know more about a particular skull.
